Ayurveda
Ayurveda
is a traditional Indian healing system inspired by the ancient philosophy
of the Vedic texts As a science of life and a means to good health
it is becoming increasingly appealing to Westerners who are seeking
a lifestyle more in tune with their essential nature.
According to the Ayurvedic system any body in nature is composed
of the five elements: ether, air, fire, water and earth. These five
elements can in turn be recombined into the three energies known
as ‘doshas’, namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
VATA: Ether and air. Light and fresh flowery scents. Movement
PITTA: Fire and water . Hot, spicy and acidic scents. Transformation
KAPHA: Water and earth. Soft and sweet scents. Preservation
Each person has their own unique constitution made up of Vata,
Pitta and Kapha which determines their physical, mental and spiritual
well-being. For example, excess ‘pitta’ in a person
might manifest as insatiable appetite and intolerance. This could
be balanced by a sweet and soft ‘kapha’ scent.
An exceptional degree of care is taken with regard to the quality
and purity of the ingredients, which are made following the ‘dry
masala bhatti’ process’ (see Indian incense). The various
plants and resins have been put together under the advice of some
of the leading practitioners of the field and are chosen for their
reputed effects on the various vital organs, as well as on a psychological
level. This incense is to be used like traditional incense or can
be burnt in combination with essential oils. Because of their complimentary
characteristics, the essentially dry (‘pitta’) nature
of incense is balanced by the ‘kapha’ nature of essential
oils.
